Police charge woman with porn theft
NORWICH – A Norwich woman was charged with stealing DVD porn, fleeing from police while under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest Tuesday.
Police arrested Sara A. Cahill, 30, of 55 1/2 Cortland St., Norwich, for various charges after an alleged shoplifting incident in the Town of Norwich.
On Tuesday at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office alerted the Norwich Police of a shoplifting incident at Adult World in the Town of Norwich, just north of the city limits. The broadcast indicated a female had stolen a number of DVDs and fled in a white sedan.
Officers patrolling the area and located the vehicle traveling on Cortland Street. Norwich Officer Timothy Annesi attempted to pull over the suspect in her vehicle on Miller Street. Cahill ignored the officer’s lights and sirens, according to police reports. The officer followed the suspect to Pleasant Street where she stopped her vehicle, got out and shouted profanities at the officer, returned to her car and drove away, police said. A second Norwich police car was approaching and blocked the path of Cahill’s vehicle. There was contact between the patrol car and Cahill’s vehicle, but there was no damage. Cahill fought and struggled with officers during her arrest, police said.
Police found scores of DVD movie packages inside Cahill’s vehicle that were reported stolen from Adult World.
After the Sheriff’s Department completed their investigation and arrest, Cahill was returned to the Norwich Police Department to be processed on the following charges: Failure to comply with a police officer; driving while impaired by drugs/narcotics; failure to submit to a breath screen test and resisting arrest.
Cahill was arraigned before Norwich City Court Judge Downey and sent to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. She willreappear in city court and a later date.
Cahill was also arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s office and charged with petit larceny.
