Wendt sets school records for RIT

WEBSTER– The RIT men's swimming and diving team placed seventh out of 13 teams at the 2011 UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championships, held at the Webster Aquatic Center last weekend. RIT finished with 550 points, while Ithaca won with 1,325 points.

Senior Evan Wendt (Norwich/Norwich High School) broke a five-year-old school record in the one-meter diving to win the event on Thursday, and broke a four-year record to win the three-meter event on Saturday.

Wendt, who will compete at the 2011 NCAA Championships next month, won the one-meter event with a score of 489.70 points, breaking a school record set nearly five years ago to the day by former All-American Quinn Donahoe by just over 11 points. In the prelims of the three-meter, Wendt broke a 21-year old UNYSCSA record by scoring 555.70 points. He recorded 526.65 points in the final to easily win the event and break the school record by 16 points.

On Wednesday, the 200-yard medley relay team of Kyle Wilson (Buffalo, NY/Canisius), Bryan Minicucci (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Zac Parker (Rochester, NY/Brighton), and Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) placed seventh with a strong time of 1:37.13, less than a second off the school record. Marchant was also tenth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.63 seconds.
