Canfield wins Greene Bowlodrome title
GREENE – For 26 years, George Canfield could only watch as bowlers participated in the Greene Bowlodrome Men’s House Handicap Tournament, for he was the co-owner of the alley during that time. Canfield knows the lanes well, and he showed that in winning the tournament last Saturday, March 5.
Twenty bowlers participated with the top five participating in a TV-style tournament roll-off to determine the champion. The qualifiers by order of finish were Canfield, 998, Benjamin Tyo, 990, Sam Beebe, 983, Ralph Goodrich, 975, and Jim Ciriglano 974.
In the first match, Goodrich beat Jim Ciriglano, 226-182. Goodrich then knocked off Beebe, 258-216, and Benjamin Tyo, 231-223, to reach the final against Canfield, the top seed. In the final, the match wasn’t decided until the ninth frame as Canfield earned a 204-103 victory.
Greene Bowlodrome thanks all who participated and announces its women’s House Handicap Tournament beginning Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m. Also, the Bowlodrome Men’s House Scratch Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m.
