Out of the Woodwork Players present “Crazy for You” this weekend
BAINBRIDGE – Seven Hollywood songs written during the last y ear of George Gershwin’s life are among those classics you’ll hear when “Crazy for You,” The New Gershwin Musical, makes its way to the Town Hall Theatre stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The last major project approved by Mrs. Ira (Leonore) Gershwin, “Crazy for You” captures not only the genius of the Gershwins, but the enthusiasm of performers everywhere.
Built around the best songs from several Gershwin musicals, “Crazy for You” began as a new production of “Girl Crazy” including a rousing “I Got Rhythm” rendition, “Embraceable You” ballad and cowboy kick-back “Bidin My Time.” It gained momentum with songs like “Someone to Watch Over Me” (from the 1926 “Oh Kay”) as well as tunes from Fred Astaire’s “Shall We Dance,” and “A Damsel in Distress.”
Dan Spencer dons the role of banker Bobby Child, the wanna be dancer, while Evelyn Iversen portrays Deadrock’s pistol packin- postmistress, Polly. Judy Pitel joins the cast as Bobby’s feisty fiancee, Irene, whose verbal fencing foils Mother Child (Donna Cuyle) as well as salty saloon keeper Lank (Rich Cooley).
