EAA sponsors fly in, drive in Chili Cook-off this weekend
NORTH NORWICH – Aviation enthusiasts and chili-lovers will fly and drive to Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport this weekend for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual Chili Cook-off. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the airport’s main hangar.
According to organizers, calling the event a “cook-off” is really a misnomer.
“This event is strictly social; a simple pot luck for fun,” said Dave Sheldon, who serves as president of the local EAA chapter. Comprised of local recreational pilots, flight instructors, experimental aircraft builders and balloonists, the organization is dedicated to generating interest in aviation. One of the group’s hallmark activities is the Young Eagles program, which provides free flights at Airport Day to young people with an interest in flying.
