Perry Browne to host first-ever Spring Technology Fling
NORWICH – Norwich City School District parents and the community at large will have an opportunity to experience the many ways in which modern technology is being utilized at the Perry Browne Intermediate School, as it prepares to host its first-ever Spring Technology Fling on Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Those attending the event in the school’s auditorium will have a chance to attend three individual, 20-minute informational sessions, each dedicated to a specific technological topic, as well as a program on Internet safety in the home, said secretary to the principal Betsy Greeley.
Topics will include various online resources including IXL Math, Sibelius music writing software, Internet math sites, student technology projects, school center webpage and sharing, home access to the district’s webpage, a SMART Board demonstration and more, she added.
“We’re really excited about this and we’re hoping to make it an annual event,” said Greeley of the Spring Tech Fling. “We’re always looking for more ways to get the community involved with the school.”
Greeley singled out the Internet safety program as one of extreme importance, considering the many potential dangers facing young web-surfers these days.
A number of Perry Browne educators will be on hand to present the various technologies used throughout the school, technologies that Greeley called integral to the learning process in this day and age.
Parents with children at any grade level are encouraged to attend, said Greeley and – as an added incentive to get parents, students and the community involved – various door prizes will be handed out, including a digital camera, flash drives, burnable compact discs, Xbox 360 game tickets to the Colonia Theater, an iPod shuffle and docking radio, ear phones, iTunes gift cards and a number of mystery grab bags. Refreshments will be provided in the cafeteria by Chobani Yogurt.
“I am proud to say that many faculty members and students will be volunteering to showcase and share their knowledge of the many aspects of technology that we use each day at the school,” said Perry Browne Principal Jennifer Post. “We have hopes that this event will be a huge success.”
The Spring Technology Fling is free and open to the public. For more information call 334-1600.
