Tuesday is Ag Day in Chenango County

COVENTRY – Agriculture’s role in American life will be the focus of activities on Tuesday, as the country celebrates National Agriculture Day. This year marks the 38th annual observance of the day, designed to recognize and celebrate the agriculture industry and the men and women involved with it for their hard work and dedication.
“Every American should understand how food, fiber and renewable resource products are produced and should value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy, providing safe, abundant and affordable products, a source of renewable energy and a world of job opportunities,” said Chenango County Farm Bureau President Bradd Vickers.
The CCFB will mark the occasion with a luncheon Tuesday at The Silo Restaurant, 203 Moran Road in Coventry. The event will kick off at 11 a.m., and focus on the theme, “Agriculture is Amazing.” One of those “amazing” aspects, according to Vickers, is the diversity of the agriculture industry - including the variety of food, fiber and fuel produced; careers; technology and methods used; and the energy produced.
Jessica Chittenden Ziehm, public information officer for the New York State Department of Ag and Markets, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. A number of legislative representatives are also expected to be on hand, and proclamations from the Chenango County Board of Supervisors, City of Norwich, New York State Assembly and New York State Senate will all be read.
Exhibitors will include Visions Credit Union, NBT Bank, Page Seed, Frontier, NFP United Advisors (formerly the Bay Ridge Group) and Agro Farma. The CCFB will also display information on bio-diesel production, as well as the benefits of membership in the agriculture advocacy organization.
The cost to attend the luncheon is $18 per person and includes a sit-down lunch featuring chicken cordon bleu, prime rib vegetable soup and dessert.
