DVD Patrol

Everyone Hanging in There, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is braving yet more crazy weather between getting lots of snow and it being surf’s up. The Commander in the thick of things, the Toddster, is with you doing what he does best. Getting those movie releases and keeping on top of all things entertainment. Time to see what we see!

New on DVD

The Fighter - There are a lot of things out there that will make people fight the odds no matter what. Based on a true story, “Irish Micky” Ward (Mark Wahlberg) was just the guy to do that. His brother Dicky (Christian Bale) was always there for him and was a fighter in his own right. The wrong choices and drugs took Dicky’s life in another direction. Micky decided to take control but wanted his brother in his corner. The only way he could do that was to go all the way to the top with Dicky in his corner and having the determination of a champion isn’t altogether bad either. Find out how well Dicky and Micky did in this terrific story. Bale and co star Melissa Leo took home Best Supporting Actor and Actress for their performances in the movie. Also, Bale returns with Anne Hathaway for “The Dark Knight Rises” in theaters Next Summer.

The Switch - People will often do whatever it takes to have a family. Wally (Jason Bateman) and Cassie (Jennifer Aniston) have been best friends for a long time. Wally would like to take their relationship to the next step but Cassie doesn’t really see him as anything other than a friend. Cassie starts to feel the ticking of her biological clock and wants to have a baby. Some friends decide to throw her a party and Cassie tells Wally that she thinks she has found the perfect donor. This doesn’t sit well with him. While drunk, Wally accidentally replaces his own sample for Cassie’s donors’. Years later, Cassie has a son Sebastian (Thomas Robinson) and moves back home. She touches base with her friends including Wally and he notices that Sebastian looks a lot like him. He gets to be good friends with Sebastian and isn’t sure what to do next. Will Wally tell Cassie that he’s the Father and will this be their way to get together? Aniston can be seen with Adam Sandler in “Just Go With It” in theaters now and Bateman will next be seen chasing an alien named “Paul” coming soon to theaters.

Also on DVD

Hereafter - When you’re known for something, getting away from it isn’t always easy. George (Matt Damon) used his psychic ability to speak to people who have gone to the other side and bring some kind of hope to loved ones who are still living. After a bad experience, George does everything he can to get away from it but people still ask him if he can find some loved one who has gone before their time. After a lot of thinking, George decides to return to help. Can he help those in need before a disaster he has foreseen happens? Damon can be seen in two movies currently in theaters with “The Adjustment Bureau” and “True Grit.”

The Chaperone - Going on a field trip can be fun or about as exciting as watching a root canal. With this guy around, things will be anything but boring. Ray Bradstone (Paul “Triple H” Levesque) had to start all over again after getting out of jail. All he wanted to do was get back together with his family and especially his daughter Sally (Ariel Winter). Starting over isn’t always an easy thing. He tries to reconnect with her but she doesn’t want anything to do with him. He just about gives up and meets up with his old crew to do another bank job but at the last minute he gets cold feet. To break the ice and help his daughter, he decides to help chaperone a field trip while the bank heist goes wrong. They’re not pleased with him since they think Ray ratted them out to the cops and stole the money. Can Ray finish the trip, bond with his daughter, and stay away from his old partners before they get him? If you’re a Wrestling fan, Levesque (or Triple H) takes on “The Undertaker” at Wrestlemania 27 on April 5 to try and end the undefeated streak of the Undertaker. (Hey, I’m a Fan)

S.W.A.T: Firefight - Dispensing justice is never an easy thing to do. Just ask Paul Cutler (Gabriel Macht). Paul is a Los Angeles Swat commander and hostage negotiator who has never lost a hostage. When his Captain asks him to go to Detroit to certify their team, he’s less than thrilled but knows it’s something that has to be done. Cutler goes in and wastes no time when he and his new team have to stop a hostage situation. However, during the operation, Cutler encounters Walter Hatch (Robert Patrick) and the hostage dies. This leaves Hatch blaming Cutler for her death and now he wants revenge. Can Cutler and his team find a way to stop Hatch before time runs out?  Other Cop movies on DVD along the same lines include S.W.A.T (starring Samuel L Jackson and Colin Farrell), “10 To Midnight” (with Charles Bronson), and “The Gauntlet” (with Clint Eastwood).

Time for a break, Patrollers! A brand new teamup with a certain pirate may just be around the corner with some other reviews coming in the next few weeks. Plans get changed but we all have to roll with it. Have a good one and the Toddster will be back next time.
