Truck under repair catches fire

NORWICH – The City of Norwich Fire Department responded to a 911 call Thursday after a homeowner said a vehicle had caught fire inside his garage.
Assistant Chief Patrick Ford said the homeowner had successfully rolled the truck he’d been working on out of his garage and into the road by the time crews arrived.
Firefighters were dispatched at 4:01 p.m. and arrived at the County Route 31 home in less than six minutes of the emergency call, with two crews in the 234 Fire Engine and 236 tanker truck responding.
Gerald Parry Jr., who was one of the first on the scene, said no one was injured and that the homeowner had acted correctly.
“There are instances where some people attempt to suppress a serious fire instead of calling for help immediately, but the owner called 911 right away,” he said.
Crews closed the road for about 30 minutes while they fought the fire.
