Snow storm takes Chenango by surprise
NORWICH – Emergency officials closed Sunset Drive in the City of Norwich this morning after a sudden winter storm covered the steeply inclined street with snow and caused a one-car accident.
The Norwich City Police at the scene reported a driver lost control of her 2003 sedan and swerved into a tree. The driver, who was alone in the car, was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
Officials closed a section of the Sunset Drive from Eric Street to State Highway 12.
Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo said he feared a vehicle coming down the hill would be unable to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of Rt. 12 due to the weather. Monday’s crash occurred about 10 yards before the busy intersection.
