NORWICH – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office reported a woman lost consciousness behind the wheel Saturday afternoon and collided with utility pole. causing temporarily electrical outages in the Norwich area.
The City of Norwich Fire Department and EMS responded to the one-car accident at 11:07 a.m. Saturday along State Highway 23, just outside the city’s limits.
Deputy Gary Miller said the driver, 47-year-old Maureen Reithoffer of Gilbertsville, was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital by ambulance and was later released with minor injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, but Miller said a medical issue may have been a factor.
Power in the immediate area was briefly disrupted, but was repaired by NYSEG technicians a few hours later.
