Spirit Week wraps-up tonight at NHS
Five days of intense Spirit Week competition at NHS will culminate today as teachers and staff at the high school prepare to do their part for the Purple and White Teams at this afternoon’s Pep Rally – competing in a match of dodgeball, a tug-of-war and a bat-pin relay.
In addition, the rally will feature performances by the school band and the winner of Thursday night’s Talent Show.
Students, of course, will contribute as well, donning their respective team colors for the day – purple for the seniors and freshmen and white for the juniors and sophomores – and searching for the correct answers to the final ten questions of the Spirit Week trivia challenge.
The overall winner, however, will ultimately be decided at tonight’s Spirit Night, where students from both teams will square-off in a number of competitions, including an obstacle course, pudding-eating contest, egg-toss, dodgeball and – new this year – a food-eating contest, Fear Factor style.
Based on the popular television program, the food-eating contest will challenge competitors to force down some unsightly grub, according to Pep Club Spirit Week coordinator Lexi Perez, who refused to comment on just what exactly that will entail, however.
“The competition is extremely close at this point and it’s too close to call, but it’s going to be awesome,” said Perez of tonight’s competition, which kicks-off at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. “It’s been a great time organizing and participating this year.”
Members of the White Team are hoping for an upset win over their rivals on the Purple Team, who are looking to repeat as Spirit Week champions tonight.
