Norwich Campus’ 3rd annual Peeps Diorama Contest to benefit the Chenango SPCA
NORWICH – In one of the more creative displays around, the Norwich branch of Morrisville State College will hold its 3rd annual Peeps Diorama Contest at 6 p.m. on April 14 in the Community Room of the Norwich Campus, 22 Conkey Ave.
The challenge is to create an original scene or setting utilizing the popular Peeps marshmallow candies, said Norwich Campus Dean Marsha Cornelius, preferably in a cardboard box of reasonable size, such as the box cover to a case of copy paper or a large shoebox.
As one of more than two dozen Peeps Diorama Contests nationwide, winners will be recognized in Peeps owner Just Born Inc. news releases and interviews following the competition.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our campus and the entire community to be recognized across the country, and we’re hoping to see a record turnout this year,” said Cornelius. “Every year we see something a little different, and some of the entries are absolutely hilarious.”
In addition, this year’s contest will benefit the Chenango SPCA, added Cornelius, and for a second straight year the competition is open to the public, as well as college faculty, staff and students.
Participants can work individually or as part of a team, said Cornelius, and Just Born will once again award a pair of grand prize packages to two lucky winners – gift certificates of $100 and $50 to the new Peeps and Company Online Store, in addition to a pair of Peeps gift boxes.
Monetary prizes of $50 will also be awarded for the most humorous, scariest, best musical and best movie scene Peeps dioramas.
“This competition is really a lot of fun for everybody and you just never know what people are going to come up with,” added Cornelius. “Think up a scene, sketch some ideas and remember that extra credit will be awarded to those who employ a catchy pun in their diorama concept or title.”
Rather than charge an entry fee this year, Cornelius said participants should bring an item to donate to the local SPCA when they drop off their diorama. An SPCA Shelter Wish List can be found at www.cspca.org and includes items such as paper towels, laundry detergent, heavy duty garbage bags, liquid hand and dish soap, bleach, hand sanitizer, window cleaner and toilet paper.
Registration forms are available at the Norwich Campus Administrative Office, dioramas must be received by 5:30 p.m. on April 14 and all entries will be on display from 4 to 6:30 p.m. For more information contact Cornelius at 334-5144.
