Commerce Chenango CEO accepts position in Kentucky

NORWICH – Commerce Chenango has announced that its CEO will leave for a new position with the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce in Kentucky at the end of April.
Maureen P. Carpenter, EDP, IOM, president and CEO of Commerce Chenango for the past four years, and member of the economic development and workforce staff for five years prior, has accepted the position of economic development coordinator for South Central Kentucky through the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce.
Carpenter will officially leave her position with Commerce Chenango on April 29.
In planning for a transition of leadership at Commerce Chenango, Kevin Walsh, chairman of the Board of Directors commented, “Maureen has made great contributions to Commerce Chenango, not only as CEO, but in her role as economic development coordinator previous to that.  I feel great about the strength of our staff and have confidence that their knowledge and experience will ensure a seamless transition period.”
The executive team will be putting together a search committee and will begin an immediate search for Carpenter’s replacement.
The Bowling Green Area Chamber is a 5-Star Accredited Chamber, the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, with a membership group of over 1,300 diverse businesses and organizations and was named the 2009 Chamber of the Year by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce serves as the lead economic development organization for the nine-county South Central Kentucky Regional Economic Development Partnership. This partnership provides support and marketing of the region to site selectors and industries.
The economic development coordinator position that Carpenter will assume has primary responsibility for the Chamber’s small business programs, business recruitment and retention, data management, business park and infrastructure development, marketing and workforce development.
“The South Central Kentucky Regional Economic Development Partnership has been recognized across the country as a model for regional economic development cooperation,” said Carpenter. “The March 2011 Site Selection Magazine, recognized Bowling Green for its impressive 2010 economic development projects. Amongst metropolitan areas with populations under 200,000, the city was ranked as third in the nation for its number of industry expansions and locations in 2010. This is one of the many reasons why I was attracted to this position.”
Carpenter currently serves on the Chamber Alliance for New York State Board of Directors; the Chenango County Planning Board and Airport Steering Committee; Central New York Area Health Education Center Advisory Council and the DCMO BOCES Education Council.
