DVD Patrol

What’s the good word, fellow Patrollers? The DVD Patrol is ready one more time with an all new assortment of DVDs just in case you get stranded on a boring afternoon or it’s just plain raining out. That fun guy, the Toddster, is here to liven the place up for you. I’ve been out pounding the pavement finding movies and meeting a lot of new patrollers who enjoy this little column of mine. We’ve managed to find a few movies over the past couple of weeks and we also hope everyone enjoyed the Angelina Jolie special last week. Let’s see what we see.

New on DVD

Gulliver’s Travels - Being the big guy never meant more than it does here. Jack Black stars in this latest retelling of this classic story. Gulliver (Black) was always doing the same things working as a mailroom clerk. Then, he decided it was time for a vacation. He picks one of the strangest places to go – the Bermuda Triangle. As everyone knows, strange things tend to happen there. Gulliver is no exception. He finds himself in a storm, winds up shipwrecked, and on a small island and small is certainly the word here. Gulliver is a giant compared to the tiny people who live there. They find him to be a little strange but he tries to make them trust him and teach them what he knows in his own offbeat way. Will he find a way home? Black has a number of projects including a new comedy called “The Big Year,” he ends getting kidnapped in “The Muppets,’ and returns to voice Po in the new “Kung Fu Panda 2” all coming soon to theaters.

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes - Cartoon Spotlight has a brand new season just in release. What happens when 75 of the worst super villains escape from prison all at once? You call in a very special team- the Avengers. Iron Man, Giant Man, The Wasp, Thor, and the Hulk are brought together to find out why. Someone has released all of the worst bad guys that each hero has fought alone at one time or another. Our heroes have their own way of working but now each of them has to find a way of putting aside their egos and fight alongside strangers. Can they find a way to do that and find out who or what has destroyed all of these prisons? Season 1 is now on DVD with Season 2 starting on Disney XD in the Fall.

Also on DVD

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part I) - No one said being a Wizard was easy. Many have seen Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) Potter learn the ropes of magic over the years and now he will need every bit of that knowledge for what lies ahead. Valdemort (Ralph Fiennes), Harry’s mortal enemy, is back and is taking over the magical world with his minions the Death Eaters. He is now taking down any who oppose him and all those who would use magic to stop him. Harry, with his friends Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) have to find the Horacruxes that holds the key to destroying Valdemort once and for all. Along the way, the clues that Harry discovers turn up a tale of something called the Deathly Hallows which could give Valdemort even more power to rule the World. Are Harry and his friends up to the job to find what they need to finally stopping the monster that killed his parents? Harry’s ultimate mission finally comes to an end in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” in theaters in July.

Born to Raise Hell - Action Spotlight is here with one of the Toddster’s favorite action stars Steven Seagal. Samuel Axel (Seagal) likes to do things his own way. Teaming up with one of his worst enemies was not something he was planning to do. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t. Now he has to when one of his team is killed, he has to do whatever he can to take down the Russian arms dealer who kills anyone who gets in his way. They have angered a guy who always get his man. Will Axel be able to stop him? Seagal has a lot of DVDs that are available from the Patrol vaults that include “Belly of the Beast,””Attack Force,” and “Submerged” now in stores.

Country Strong - Finding your way back to doing what you do best may not always be so easy. The road to fame can be a hard one and Kelly Carter (Gywneth Paltrow) was a country star who had the best of everything. Her road found a roadblock in the form of alcohol and she decided to take steps to put an end to it. Her stint in recovery may have been cut a little too short when her record label starts to show signs of dropping her so her husband (Tim McGraw) brings her back to record a new song that could jumpstart her career again. Also, Kelly takes an up and coming young girl Chiles Stanton (Leighton Meester) under her wing who wants to follow in Kelly’s footsteps to become a star as well. Some things start to happen that signal Kelly may have come back too soon. Can she find a way to handle it before she won’t be able to? My sources tell me that Paltrow might be starting a recording career with another return to “Glee” before the season ends. Stay tuned!

Things are starting to pick back up so we have to come to the end for this time around. The summer movie season will be starting very soon with a lot more reviews coming with the weather getting nicer. The Toddster will be back.
