Syracuse rockers Silent Fury ready to hit the Blarney Stone stage

NORWICH – Since forming three years ago, Syracuse-based rockers Silent Fury have opened for the likes of Bret Michaels, the Spin Doctors, the Goo Goo Dolls, Warrant, Vertical Horizon and Vince Neil, of Motley Crue fame. At 9:30 p.m. Friday, the band will take to the Blarney Stone Pub stage for its debut Norwich performance.
Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Mick Fury, the trio also features bassist Joe Nasty and drummer Goose. With the band’s wide range of influences – from Nickelback to the Beatles, The Allman Brothers Band to Journey and Guns n’ Roses – people can expect a unique and top-notch performance, according to Fury.
“We try to write hard-core, angry love songs, but they’re not all angry,” laughed the guitarist, a three-time nominee for Syracuse’s version of the Grammys, known as the Sammy Awards. “I don’t mind a cheesy love song if it hits me just right, though.”
The band, which performs a blend of hard-rock covers and original material, has toured extensively up and down the east coast and as far away as Texas, added Fury. Due to a rotating cast of characters, Fury and Nasty also perform acoustically, which the guitarist said “opens up a lot of options and gives us some versatility.”
Don’t expect any of that on Friday, however, as Fury said he and the band are planning on bringing down the house.
“Another band that’s performed here, The Hook, put them in contact with us and we’re psyched that they’re coming to Norwich,” said Blarney Stone owner Sarah Woods. “Central New York has such a tremendous live music scene and this should be a really great night.”
The group will have copies of both its debut CD, Sunday Stiletto, and the recently released Girl In My Head, and will perform many of the songs found on both discs, including “Kick Down My Door,” “Faded Glory” and its latest release, “Love Stands in the Way,” stated Fury.
“The new CD is doing really, really well so far and it’s been a wild ride,” he added. “Obviously, we’re excited for our first visit to Norwich and the Blarney Stone Pub.”
There is no cover charge for Friday’s performance. For more information call the Blarney Stone Pub at 336-2630 or visit www.silentfury.net.
