SHERBURNE – A costly error led to five fifth-inning runs for Canastota, who beat Sherburne-Earlville on Tuesday.
The Marauders committed just two errors in the game, and the second one came in the fifth with two outs. After that, Canastota plated five runs to extend its lead to 11-5. Rich Mitchell’s double scored two runs in the inning.
“The kids played really well, the one error just cost us,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.
Dallas Moryl had two hits and four RBI for S-E. Moryl hit a two-run double in the third, and added a two-run single in the seventh.
S-E junior Cole Hodges pitched five-plus effective innings of relief. “Cole coming in and giving us five good innings was remarkable,” Hicks said. “He pitched super.”
Mick Khoury and Carter Cole also had two hits for S-E.

MCGRAW – Aaron Hitt threw a one-hit shutout, the only OV basehit coming from sophomore Travis Sheldon in Tuesday’s contest.
Chris Sweeney drove in two runs for the winners, Mark Hitt was 2-for-3, and Nick Cowen finished 3-for-4 at the plate.
“We just couldn’t get anything going at the plate today,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We put the ball in play, we just couldn’t find the right places.”
The Vikings play at doubleheader at Madison today.

AFTON – Afton dug itself out of a 5-0 hole to beat Edmeston Tuesday in a non-league game.
The Crimson Knights tied the game in the sixth when Cameron Oswald singled, stole second and third, and scored on a passed ball. Later in the inning, Mark Viviano reached safely on an error, and he moved to second on a stolen base. Joe Shearer’s bloop single to right field scored Viviano with the go-ahead run.
“This is the first game that we’ve stayed in it when we were down, and fought the whole way,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “This is a good win for us.”
Cameron Oswald shook off a slow start to pitch a complete-game victory. The Knights play Oxford at home today.

SHERBURNE – Jess Patterelli allowed just one S-E hit over five innings, and the Raiders opened up their lead scoring the game’s first four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Alexis Havens had two hits, one a double, and drove in five runs. Val Baer finished 3-for-4 with three ribbies. Patterelli finished with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Colin Izard led UV shooting a 39 over the par-34 front nine, Austin Glidden was next at 42, Ryan Jacobs fired a 43, Bryant Maynard turned in a 45, while Jesse Thomas carded a 46.
