DVD Patrol: Superhero edition
The DVD Patrol has had a lot of heroes lately and I thought it would be only natural to throw in some choices with a very special column. The new movie “Green Lantern” starring Ryan Reynolds comes out today and when you read comics, he comes from the same company as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. These movies have been mostly accepted by the public and the movie industry even for those that don’t read comic books. Here are the choices that the Toddster has picked out from the vaults and may be headed for some live action formats too.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies - Heroes have to deal with things all the time they don’t like. For Superman, that’s an understatement. Lex Luthor has been a thorn in his side and he’s been trying to kill him for years. Lex has a new job that no one thought he would get. Becoming President of the United States. A Kryptonite asteroid has been discovered the size of Metropolis heading for the Earth. Batman tells Superman and Lex has made the same discovery too. Lex wants to make a truce with the Man of Steel and he actually seems sincere. Knowing how long Lex has been trying to kill him, he can’t resist to make one more try. Superman manages to escape and with Batman’s help, they go on the run. Lex declares them to be enemies of the state and the two heroes go on the run. A $1 Million dollar bounty is put on their heads and it brings out Super Villians and Heroes too. Will the Dark Knight and Man of Tomorrow stop the President and the threat to the Earth? Christopher Nolan and Zach Snyder (300) have joined forces to produce “Superman: The Man of Steel” with an all new cast and set for release December 2012.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse - Help arrives from the strangest places. Something crashes in Gotham City and Batman goes to investigate. He hears reports of a young girl on the run from the Police who can’t be hurt and has heat blasts coming from her eyes. During the chase, she causes some aircraft to crash and it becomes a job for Superman. With Superman’s help, Batman is able to save Gotham and stop the young girl before she can cause any more damage. They discover that the girl is Kara and she is Superman’s cousin. Superman tries to do what he can to make her settle in as easy as possible but Batman is still suspicious of the new arrival. Wonder Woman arrives to assist Batman because they know Kara will need training and their enemies may try to hurt Kara or use her against Superman. Darkseid has set his eyes on Kara and will do anything he can to kill Superman. Can they save Kara and stop Darkseid before it’s too late? Christopher Nolan is also working on “The Dark Knight Rises” right now and will be released in July 2012.
Wonder Woman - Striking out on your own is never an easy thing but is a part of life. For an immortal princess, it’s definitely something new. Diana lives on Paradise Island and is populated by amazons who have never met any men. Until now. Pilot Steve Trevor crashlands on the Island and is saved by them. The World of Man has changed over the course of the centuries and now the Queen of the Amazons wants to find out just how much things have changed. Diana volunteers to do that but the Queen forbids her. She thinks only the best amazon can go and makes a version of the Olympics to see who is the best. Diana disguises herself and wins the games. Diana wins and now she will find out how Man has changed. She’ll have to find out in a hurry because the God of War, Ares, has escaped and now goes out into the World to make trouble. Is Diana, with Steve’s help, going to be able to stop Ares and make her way? Seasons 1-3 are now available on DVD now. Also, NBC also made a pilot for a new Wonder Woman series but things didn’t work out. There is still a chance for it. Stay Tuned!
Superman: Doomsday - Heroes never know how long they have. Fighting the good fight is always taking a chance. Superman has been doing this for years but has never really had his limits pushed. One of Lex Luthor’s many operations have discovered some type of alien aircraft with something inside it. A creature of incredible power is released and destroys everything in its path. The news names the creature “Doomsday” and starts to tear through Metropolis. Superman hears about it and goes to stop it. After a long battle, Superman manages to stop it but he passes out and dies. Some time passes by and Superman returns. Lois Lane has been close to him for years and she knows that there is something different about him. Has he really returned or is this some new enemy using Superman for his own ends? Some other movies from the producers include “Batman: Under the Red Hood,” “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths,” and “The Batman/Superman Movie.”
Green Lantern: First Flight - Getting something new is always fun. Hal Jordan was a pilot who loved his Dad. He was a pilot who crashed when Hal was a kid. Hal grows up to become a pilot in his own right but has a knack for getting into trouble. Trouble finds him when he’s whisked away by a strange green light. An alien named Abin Sur worked for an Galactic Police force called the Green Lantern Corps. Abin Sur’s power ring chooses Hal Jordan to take over. The Corps sends some of its’ officers to get Abin Sur and take back the ring. Hal might have something to say about that. The ring chose him so the Corps brings Hal back to the Guardians of the Universe who started the Corps to keep justice and peace. They see something in Hal and they decide he will be taught by Sinestro who is considered the best. Sinestro goes to investigate who killed Abin Sur and why. The longer they work on the case, Hal sees things about Sinestro that suggest he might have something to do with what’s is going on. Can Hal prove himself and find out just how far Sinestro’s involvement goes? Catch the new Green Lantern movie in theaters now and last weeks DVD profiled here “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” in stores now.
