Preston Manor gifted 1950s era painting

PRESTON - A large oil painting of Preston Manor Home for Adults circa 1959 was recently donated to the Chenango County home by the daughter of former Preston Town Historian and painter, Ethel Kalicicki.
Daughter Josephine Stratton of Maryland had the 3 by 2 foot horizontal painting in her home in Baltimore, but decided in May to donate it to Preston Manor.
“She’s had it all these years and thought it belonged here where it would have some real meaning,” said Teresa Monroe-Werner, administator at Preston Manor. “We were naturally excited about this, and the painting is here now and is really quite beautiful.”
The painting depicts Preston Manor with shrubbery, trees and vines all since gone. Monroe-Werner, who has been with the home for 36 years, said she remembers some of the former landscape.
Residents of the home have enjoyed seeing the addition to their lounge, she said.
Stratton said visitors to the Preston Fire House may also see her mother’s painting of that institution. The self-taught Kalicicki also painted numerous homes in Preston.
