Senior Lifelines devices may come with a cost in future

NORWICH – The Chenango County Area Agency on Aging has operated a Lifeline program for the past 30 years, providing personal emergency response systems to individuals throughout Chenango County. In cooperation with the Sheriff’s Office, the 911 center, county government and community support, the service has always been provided on a contribution basis.

The Agency has received notice from Philips Lifeline that the equipment platform, used to locally receive and monitor calls coming into our response center from Lifeline users, will be discontinued. This equipment, currently housed at the County 911 Center, is answered and monitored by local personnel. The Agency has been notified by Philips that key components for manufacture and maintenance of the equipment have been discontinued by their suppliers. Design innovations and changes in technology are leaving us with a system that will soon be obsolete.
