Lunchtime LIVE! premieres tomorrow
NORWICH – Every summer, the Norwich Business Improvement District, in conjunction with the Chenango County Farmer’s Market, organizes Lunchtime LIVE!
Lunchtime LIVE! brings local musicians to perform downtown on Wednesdays in July and August from noon to 1 p.m. The event is free and people are welcome to bring their lunch and a lawn chair and enjoy the show.
Usually the shows are held in East Park, but due to renovations, the first few performances will be held in West Park instead, said BID Executive Director Pegi LoPresti. A temporary stage will be set up for Lunchtime LIVE! performances and Thursday night’s Blues Festival free summer concerts.
“We just appreciate the greater Norwich community,” LoPresti said. “The construction is short term. It will get better.”
LoPresti added that she was unsure when the performances would move back to East Park.
There have been Lunchtime LIVE! performances every year for about 11 years. Performers are usually small local acts, but, LoPresti said, are very popular. She added that she’s hoping for a bigger crowd during this summer’s performances.
“I really wish more people took advantage to grab a lunch and come,” she said.
Yet, she added, there are still loyal fans.
“I really like to get the performers that those who attend most love,” LoPresti said.
The performances are scheduled in conjunction with the Chenango County Farmer’s Market. The Farmer’s Market usually begins to setup in early June, but benefits from people who attend the lunchtime performances.
“We try to assist the Farmer’s Market,” said LoPresti. “They usually get people who shop around during the hour.”
The first Lunchtime LIVE! performance is scheduled for Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in West Park, featuring The Evening Sun’s own Brian Golden. Other performers include:
• July 27: Joe Lombardi
• Aug. 3: Aaron and Claudia Karppala
• Aug. 10: Ron Palmer and Jeff Rasmussen
• Aug. 17: My New Obsession
• Aug. 24: Tom Rasely
• Aug. 31: Pamme Swan.
This project is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Chenango County Council of the Arts.
