Agro Farma unveils Champions Field tonight
NEW BERLIN – Agro Farma will unveil the $300,000 Chobani Champions Field in New Berlin at an opening ceremony on Friday. The ceremony will be open to the public starting at 6 p.m.
Special events at the ceremony will include performances by local singer Katelyn Jackson and the Donna Frech School of dance, a dedication by New Berlin Mayor Terry Potte,r and a special appearance by former Major League Baseball player Tommy John.
At 8:30 p.m. there will be mini Little League games and the ceremony will conclude with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Parking will be at Preferred Mutual in downtown New Berlin and buses provided by New Berlin central schools will shuttle everyone back and forth to the event.
The process to develop Chobani Champions Field, (formerly known as Fish Field), began over a year and a half ago when the Unadilla Valley Youth Baseball and Softball Association approached Agro Farma about donating funds to do some repairs to the old field. CEO Hamdi Ulukaya went much further donating $300,000 to building a brand-new field through his charity organization, Shepherd’s Gift.
“I can’t thank [them] enough for what they’ve done and what they’re doing for our community,” Potter said.
