Smyrna Citizens Band to hold third summer concert

SMYRNA – The Smyrna Citizens Band will hold its third summer concert of the year at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the bandstand above the Smyrna Public Library, 7 East Main St.
Monday’s performance will kick-off with “The Star Spangled Banner” and feature a variety of other musical selections, including “Camelot,” “Medley from Shrek,” “Kentucky Babe,” “March of the Toys,” “Strike Up the Band,” “Tales from the Vienna Woods,” “Caravan Overture,” “Mexican Holiday,” “Beguine Again” and “Pride of the Pacific,” as well as others.
The annual weekly concerts are made possible through public funds administered by the New York State Council on the Arts and distributed by the Chenango County Council of the Arts, according to Town of Smyrna Clerk Geraldine Day. Support funds are also received from the Town and Village of Smyrna.
Day said she hopes people plan to enjoy this year’s series of summer concerts and called it a great way to experience an unique taste of small town Americana. Those attending may bring their own lawn chairs or simply sit in their cars and listen to a diverse group of musicians who love an chance to perform, she added.
Refreshments will be available from Ope’s Dog Stop and the Methodist Church will be serving homemade pie. For more information contact Day at 627-6269.
