Two arrested in Friday morning drug bust
NORWICH – An early morning raid on a Town of Norwich hotel room led to the arrest of two Syracuse drug dealers.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Norwich City Police executed a no-knock warrant on a room in a Town of Norwich hotel at approximately 5 a.m. on Friday. A quantity of crack cocaine was seized, along with drug paraphernalia and cash.
The room’s occupants, Shakir X. Elliott, 22, and a 16-year old female, both of Syracuse, were taken into custody.
According to Lt. Richard Cobb, the arrests were the result of several weeks of investigation into the sale of crack cocaine in Norwich by the two agencies. Neither Elliott nor the female arrested were residents of Chenango County, but believed to be traveling back and forth from Syracuse for the purpose of selling drugs. Cobb would not comment on how or when the pair initially came to the attention of law enforcement agencies, but said investigators had been aware of their involvement in the sale of illegal narcotics in the area for “several weeks.”
