Frontier Communications adds 77 more jobs at Sherburne Center

SHERBURNE – Frontier Communications announced today that it is adding 77 new jobs at its Sherburne Plant Service Center. This is in addition to the 52 jobs the company added earlier this year, bringing total employment in the Sherburne facility to approximately 280.
“Frontier is growing by leaps and bounds here in Chenango County and we are delighted that we can continue to add jobs in this community,” shared Jim Currie, vice president of field operations for the company’s Northeast region.
Positions in repair, dispatch, test and assignment, as well as supervisory roles are available. The added staff will convert new access lines in 14 states that Frontier Communications acquired from Verizon at the beginning of 2010 and provide support to field technicians located in 26 states.
Currie said the Sherburne Plant Service Center was specifically selected to add workers because of its reputation.
“We have a good reputation within the corporation for being able to get things done,” he said.
Ann Burr, president of the Northeast region for Frontier Communications, said many of the positions are part of the order provisioning process for Frontier’s customers and “integral to providing top-notch service to Frontier’s customers.”
“We are looking forward to welcoming the new employees to the team,” she said.
Frontier will begin recruiting aggressively through two career fairs scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the Sherburne facility at 14 Classic St. Interested candidates should bring their completed resume and be prepared for short screening interviews. Job-seekers may also apply online at Frontier.com/careers.
Currie said 304 candidates came to a job fair two months ago when the first 52 openings were announced. The company also plans to advertise for the jobs in three surrounding counties.
“When people look at Chenango County jobs, they tend to assume you are only talking about workers in Norwich and Sherburne. We have employees who travel from as far away as Chenango Bridge and New Hartford every day. Upstate New York has been depressed for so long, people want to work. They will travel,” said Currie.
Village of Sherburne Mayor William Acee welcomed the news with optimism that the community had returned to pre-2008 employment levels, if not higher. The local economy last year weathered the loss of 100 jobs from Lok-N-Logs and the closing of Sherburne Metal Products, which put about 30 employees out of work. (See sidebar.)
