Victor trial to begin Monday
NORWICH – After several delays, court officials say the trial of Michael A. Victor, Jr. will begin Monday.
According to Clerk of the Court Catherine Schell, jury selection will begin at 9 a.m. on Aug. 30 at the Chenango County Courthouse. County Court Judge W. Howard Sullivan will preside.
Victor’s case was scheduled to be tried in July, but was adjourned to a later date first at the request of defense counsel and then because an insufficient number of jurors reported.
Victor, now 30, was indicted in 2009 on eight charges including second degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A-II felony carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. He also faces three counts of second degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony which carries a maximum of 15 years in prison; three counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class D felony; and second degree conspiracy, a class B felony.
The charges stem from drug busts in March and early April of 2009, during which an estimated $25,000 worth of crack cocaine, loaded firearms and drug paraphernalia were seized.
His former girlfriend and alleged co-consiprator Curissa Jenkins plead guilty to fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, in January of 2010. As part of a negotiated plea agreement, she is expected to testify against Victor during the trial.
