Historical Society's annual Antiques Show is Sunday
NORWICH – The Chenango Historical Society will host its 35th annual antiques show from 8 am. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the fairgrounds to raise funds for the museum.
Admission to the event is $4 and will provide access to over 50 antiques dealers from across the state. Additionally, the Historical Society has included the presence of quality craft dealers this year who will be selling hand-made wares such as soaps, jewelry and candles.
Singer/song-writer Brian Murphy will also be on site selling his albums as well as providing musical entertainment for the event.
Food from Pop ‘n Sons and ice cream from Gilligan’s will be available to purchase in the Grange Hall. Volunteers from the Historical Society will have baked goods for sale, as well.
According to the antiques show chairperson Howard Fogel, the event usually draws a large group of people, many of whom come from outside Chenango County.
“About 90 percent of the dealers come back every year,” he said. “And many of the people who come through the gate are looking for these particular dealers.”
Aside from the aforementioned antique displays, the county Historical Society has teamed with similar groups from Oxford, New Berlin and Guilford to provide displays for visitors and buyers. There will be a demonstration of antique engines as well as an antique radio display. Also, in keeping with the theme of commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, there will be an exhibition booth with displays of Civil War uniforms, weapons, memorabilia and other items.
“People can stop and talk to whomever’s manning the booth for further information,” said Fogel. He explained that there would also be other booths on site including representatives from the Northeast Classic Car Museum in Norwich. Fogel said the fundraiser would not be possible without the help of numerous businesses around the area.
