NORWICH – The Norwich Cyclones A Team upended the New Hartford Spartans 22-0 at Alumni Field Sunday. Two lightning delays limited the game to two quarters with New Hartford forfeiting the second half.
Cameron Edwards got the Cyclones on the board at the 6:50 mark of the first quarter with a 13-yard TD run. Edwards also had a 21-yard touchdown three minutes later, with Cole Rifanburg adding two, two-point extra-point kicks. Matt Parrella recovered an onside Cycloned kickoff after the first Cyclone score.
Edwards worked for 49 yards on six carries, with Carlos Ithier adding 39 yards of offense, and Cole Rifanburg adding 32 yards on only four carries.
Rifanburg added an eight-yard TD reception from Jordan Vinal in the second.
On defense, the Cyclones held New Hartford to minus 25 yards offense. Carlos Itheir, Dan Zieno, Trey Muserallo, Nick Murphy and Rifanburg – with an interception – led the Cyclones’ defense.
The Cyclones’ C team downed Whitesboro 13-0 at Whitesboro in a rematch of last year’s league championship game won by Whitesboro in overtime. Zack Mills led the Cyclones offense with two touchdowns and a point-after run.
On defense, Drew Walsh, JT Vinal, Carson Maynard, Griffin Clipston, and Keegan Wright led the Cyclones.
The Cyclone B Team stopped last year’s division champs, Whitesboro, 12-6, at Whitesboro.
Ty Rifanburg scored on a seven-yard TD run, with Zack Race scoring on a 31-yard scamper. Brennan Slater led the Cyclones’ “D” with Carter Rudnitski, Payton Stirone, Jon Heggie, and Marcus Benjamin playing big. Rifanburg
The Cyclone “D” Team played Whitesboro and prevailed in a unofficial scoring scrimmage.
The Cyclones’ A, C and D teams are home on Sunday, Sept. 11 against Utica Procter. The B team will play Central Square at home as Utica could not field enough players for a B squad. Times of Sunday’s games are 9 a.m. (D team), 11 a.m. (C team), 1 p.m. (B team), and 3 p.m. (A team).
