Window smashing at Y leads to arrest
NORWICH – A 22-year-old Norwich man has been charged with one count of second degree criminal mischief following a window-smashing spree that occurred early Sunday morning.
Christopher Andrew Bonno, 30 Cortland St., was apprehended by Norwich City Police for allegedly breaking a number of windows at the Norwich Family YMCA, 68-70 North Broad St. Among those broken are a south-facing entrance and window looking into the Y’s pool area, as well as five panes of the gymnasium’s large, east-facing window, according to YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen.
Norwich Police Chief Joseph Angelino said the PD received a call at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday reporting the sound of breaking glass in the vicinity of the YMCA. Patrols responded and discovered the broken windows before speaking with a nearby resident who described what he’d seen and heard. After searching the vicinity, Angelino said officers spoke with Bonno, later arresting him for the crime after a description was provided by the witness.
