Daryl Forsythe is recipient of 2011 Harry Tecklenburg Leadership Award

NORWICH – Commerce Chenango, the Chenango Foundation Inc. and the Advisory Committee of Leadership Chenango are pleased to announce that Daryl Forsythe is the 2011 recipient of the Harry Tecklenburg Leadership Award. The award will be presented at the Kickoff Dinner for the Leadership Chenango Class of 2012 on Oct. 6 at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich.
The Harry Tecklenburg Leadership Award is given to someone who has demonstrated the capacity to inspire others; a vision for the future; high ethical standards; who acts as a role model/mentor for future leaders; shows constructive participation in addressing community needs; has the ability to work with people; commitment to a cause; and acts as an outstanding leadership resource for the community.
According to a nomination received from John Mitchell, “Daryl Forsythe sets the standard of ethics in all of his endeavors. He is totally committed to his family, church, and the organizations he is involved with. He provides a blueprint for how a leader behaves and communicates, and is not judgmental but seeks to understand others and see the good in all. His humble manner and subtle sense of humor make it easy for individuals to seek out his advice.”
Examples of the many organizations and projects benefiting from Daryl Forsythe’s enthusiasm and dedication to the community include: Commerce Chenango, Development Chenango Corporation, the Northeast Classic Car Museum, Hospice, and the Otis Thompson Foundation. He is honorary trustee for the SUNY Oneonta Foundation and a trustee for Syracuse University. He also serves as director for Security Mutual Insurance Company of New York, Inc., the New York Business Development Corporation, New York Central Mutual Insurance Company and the National Security Life and Annuity Company.
The Harry Tecklenburg award was established because Harry was not only a great example of a community leader, but was also a great friend to the Leadership Chenango Program. Steve Craig, Executive Director of The Chenango Foundation, said, “It is clear that Chenango County is a stronger community because of Daryl Forsythe’s vision and leadership. His contributions more than qualify him to receive the Tecklenburg Award.”
Past award recipients are Marylou Stewart (1994), Tracy “Ted” Hogan (1996), and John Huhtala, Sr. (1998), Clarence “Rapp” Rappleyea (2000), J. Peter Chaplin (2001), Eric Larsen (2003), James H. Williams (2007), and David Emerson (2009).
