Greene blanks tough Harpursville squad
Field Hockey
Greene 4, Harpursville 0
HARPURSVILLE – Greene extended its unbeaten record Thursday, and the final margin of victory was not indicative of the game’s closeness, said Trojans coach Sue Carlin.
“They’re a tough team. Julia (Amell, Greene goalie) made some great saves, amd our defense came up big,” Carlin said.
Greene was outshot 16-12, but capitalized on its scoring opportunities. Emma Anderson tallied off a penalty corner follwing a nice pass by Colleen Dietrich with 8:41 left in the opening period. Less than four minutes later, Brandee Schoonmaker picked up a pass from Emily Gascon to make it a 2-0 game.
Gascon and Jahna Driscoll added to the Greene lead with unassisted goals. “We were without Emily (Conroe) tonight, and we had to do some repositioning,” Carlin said. “I thought the kids hung in there and did a great job. I was glad for this game. Julia has not had to make a lot of saves, and she definitely was up for the challenge today.”
Greene hosts Sidney Saturday at 10 a.m.
