SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville won its third straight game – all in division play – and crept a step closer to reaching the Section III playoffs for the first time with a shutout of Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton on Friday night.

The big-play running of Devven Ferris complemented the inside rushes of Cory Musician and Austin Jasper leading S-E (3-1) to a 20-0 halftime lead.

“We had some pretty horrible conditions, and based on that, we knew we would stick to the running game,” said S-E coach Mike Jasper. “It was nothing fancy, just blasting it up the middle. Devven is a speedster, and gave us a great counter. When he got outside, it hurt them.”

Ferris had scoring runs of 39, 40, and 53 yards, and he finished with 127 yards rushing on just six carries. That offensive production was more than enough for the Marauders, who held the M-E/H to just 44 yards of total offense.

Musician had an eight-yard TD run in the third quarter, and he finished with 71 yards rushing. Austin Jasper added 74 yards rushing on 10 carries. S-E takes a week off from division play when it plays UV-Edmeston this week. “We’re not to the point where we can look ahead to anyone,” the S-E coach said, whose team has two league games left. “One of our goals is to win every division game, and let things happen from there.”
