Five-year-old bicyclist struck by car, airlifted to Syracuse

NORWICH – A five-year-old bicyclist was struck by a car on Sunday and – following transportation to Chenango Memorial Hospital – transferred via Sidney-based Life Net helicopter to Syracuse University Hospital.
The Norwich City Police and Fire Departments responded to the Eric Street accident at approximately 5:45 p.m. Sunday, where a pair of witnesses said 36-year-old Joyce Hendrickson, travelling west on Eric Street, collided with a five-year-old girl.
Both witnesses described the girl as pedaling out of her driveway at 14 Eric Street into traffic, crossing into the path of the car.
Norwich Police Chief Joseph Angelino said the victim suffered arm and pelvic injuries. According to Syracuse University Hospital records, she has since been released.
Hendrickson was ticketed for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle for having no insurance.
