Norwich golfers clinch second straight division title

PLYMOUTH – Norwich’s golf team clinched the STAC Central Division for the second straight season beating Susquehanna Valley Tuesday at Canasawacta Country Club.
Eric Walling had birdies on the second and fifth holes, and finished with an even-par 36 over the C.C.C. front nine to earn overall medalist honors. “The course is playing soft and long, and (Eric’s) score is exceptional considering how difficult the course is playing,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham.
Ryan Hagen added a 42 for NHS (10-3), Corey Johnson carded a 44, Casey Marson shot a 46, and Rick Runyon turned in a 49.
Norwich hosts Owego Thursday.

Jess Kemmerling had eight kills, and Lauren Edwards picked up 19 assists. “Owego is a well-groomed team,” said Norwich coach Shelly Alger. “They all could attack and jump, and their serving won the match for them.”
Laura Zagada had eight digs for Norwich in the loss.

B-G freshman Morgan Bullis had 12 assists and 10 kills, and first-year player Shania Vandermark led with 13 kills. “We did not have our serves tonight, but we volleyed well to win back the point,” said B-G coach Pam Tompkins. “We could never get far ahead, and we never had a chance to take a breather.”
B-G hosts Unadilla Valley on Thursday.

Nicholas Deyulio and James Short had two goals for Clinton, who marked the night by recognizing their senior players. “We tried a different tactic defensively, and it kind of backfired, said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez, who said tonight’s defensive approach was geared to take away the crossing passes of Clinton. “They were very patient shifting side to side, and they got us out of our defensive shape.”
S-E plays Hamilton on Thursday.
