NEW BERLIN – Oxford’s Ryan Moore took a pass from Jacob McConnell, and buried the tying goal with 3:19 left in regulation to force a tie with Unadilla Valley Wednesday.
Brett Smith had one goal and one assist for the Storm, and he scored 4:06 into the game. Less than 14 minutes later, the Blackhawks’ Chris Marks connected on a direct kick before UV’s Connor Pope put his team on top with 15:39 left in the opening half.
“I felt we controlled the majority of the game,” said UV coach Ryan Houck. “Their goalie (Branden McConnell) made a handful of fantastic diving saves, and he excelled at stopping our breakaways.”
McConnell made 13 saves for the Blackhawks. “Curious how a tie feels like a victory after all of the close games we’ve played,” said Oxford coach Jim Champlin. “I thought Smith was the difference in the game. Without question, he is an outstanding player.”

At doubles, the pairings of Jenny Borfitz-Breanna Cashman along with Krissy Stroh-Steph Elder earned wins. Stroh and Elder rallied for the victory after dropping the opening set.
Norwich looks to avenge its opening-match loss to Owego when it travels to the Indians’ home court today.

ILION – Competing on the circuit that will host the Center State Conference championships in just over two weeks, Sherburne-Earlville’s boys dropped matchups to Ilion, Sauquoit Valley, and New York Mills. S-E earned a victory over Waterville, who did not field a complete roster.
“We were able to get a good look at the course, and we now have a better idea of what we need to work on,” said S-E coach Anne Geary of Wednesday’s race.
Ian Benedict ran the five-kilometer race in 20:53 to place 16th out of 38 boys. Finishing 21st was Ryan Palmiter (21:23).
The S-E girls had a limited lineup, but was able to score a 9-12 win over New York Mills. Erin Mahardy led the S-E contingent placing 20th out of 45 runners in 27:08.
The Marauders are idle until Oct. 12 when they visit Herkimer.
