Norwich man charged with false personification, arrested on two warrants

NORWICH – A Norwich man was taken into custody yesterday after the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office discovered he had two separate bench warrants out for his arrest.
Jay A. Oldham, 37, was originally questioned by a Sheriff’s deputy in relation to what turned out to be an unrelated bench warrant on State Highway 12 in the Town of Norwich, according to a press release issued by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. When asked for his personal information, Oldham allegedly provided a false name and date of birth. When informed doing so would result in his arrest, Oldham allegedly provided the same false name, but a different date of birth. Once his true identity was discovered, Oldham was found to have two separate bench warrants – issued by Orange and Montgomery counties – out for his arrest.
Oldham was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
