Pierce found guilty of second degree burglary

NORWICH – A second man accused in an attempted Beebe Avenue robbery that occurred in August of 2010 has been found guilty by a Chenango County jury. The verdict – passed down by jurors after less than an hour of deliberations yesterday – finds defendant Anthony Pierce guilty of second degree burglary, a class C felony.

Just last week, Pierce’s co-defendant, Daniel Sabines, was found guilty of the same charge. Both are scheduled to be sentenced at a later date.

According to prosecutors, the two would-be thieves – under the pretense of going door-to-door collecting signatures for a political petition – unlawfully entered a 22 Beebe Ave. residence on Aug. 16, 2010. When unexpectedly confronted by the home’s owner, Sabines fled through a back door. Pierce is alleged to have exited the home from a second floor front window, and was not seen by the homeowner.
