DVD Patrol

Time to go again, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is cruising along one more time for some movies for you. The Cruise Director, the Toddster, has picked some out for you. I sure hope some of my Franchise choices pointed you in the right direction. This column has always been a lot of fun for me and we want to keep on going for more years to come. Special thanks to Jeff Genung for taking a chance on the ole Toddster. This is just a little something that gets the weekend started off on a good note. Let’s see what there is.

New on DVD

Larry Crowne - Sometimes a new start in life is something everyone needs. The timing can be better at times though. Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks) had a comfortable job working in at a store where he had a lot of experience. The store had other plans and decided to lay him off. Larry decided to update his skills by taking some college courses where he meets a speaking teacher named Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts) who just teaches to get a check. As time goes by, her attitude begins to change. It seems being around Larry makes her forget her problems and even those with her marriage. Luck always has a way bringing people together. Can Larry and Mercedes find something that brings them together finally? Roberts is trying something different for a change of pace in a new version of Snow White called “Mirror, Mirror” where she plays the evil queen set for release in 2012.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 2 - Every good mission for a hero has to come to an end. Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson), and Ron (Rupert Grint) have been on a mission to find out what they can about Lord Valdermort (Ralph Fiennes). They try to find the Horacruxes - an ancient relic of power that can bring immortality or destruction. Harry now has to find the part of the soul that has his immortality and destroy it forever. Harry and his friends just have to overcome everyone that is after him. He knows that the final fight is going to come down to him and Valdermort himself. Can Harry do what needs to be done to stop him and save everyone? Radcliffe is moving on with his career by starring in a new scary movie called “The Woman in Black” set for release early next year.

Also on DVD

The Change-Up - Friendship is a wonderful thing. You can make a friend for life. Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) and Dave (Jason Bateman) grew up together and both of them thought they had everything they ever wanted. Some years go by and the two buddies grew apart. Dave became a family man and Mitch became a ladies man. One thing came up though. They meet up again and they see each other has the life they always wanted. Be careful what you wish for. Mitch and Dave exchange each others’ lives and get a chance to see that they’ve been missing. Will what they see be what they really want? Reynolds has been pretty busy in 2011 and he has some new movies coming out in 2012 including one with Denzel Washington called “Safehouse” coming out in February 2012.

The Reunion - Family is something you always have but things can get pretty complicated. For Sam (John Cena), Leo (Ethan Embry), and Doug (Boyd Holbrook), being brothers isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. They have decided to start a new business together and to become bounty hunters. Their first big job leads them to Mexico to find someone who they are hunting and in the process find an important man who has been kidnapped. They can’t always agree on what has to be done and now. Are they going to be able to find their bounty and get their reward? Another friend of Cena’s is Dwayne Johnson who currently working on “GI Joe: Retaliation” set for release next summer.

That’s all we have for now, Patrollers! Next week is Thanksgiving and then we have a short time to go until Christmas. The Patrol will be here to keep you updated on a some good movies here and there. The Toddster shall see you next week.
