Bill Staines at 6 On The Square 

OXFORD – 6 On The Square (6OTS) proudly presents the legendary American folk musician and singer-songwriter, Bill Staines in concert on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. After touring and playing concerts for over 41 years, you would think that Bill Staines might think about slowing down, but that’s just not the case.

 Welcomed around the world, Bill Staines, a mainstay in the folk music arena, has recorded twenty-six albums, written over three hundred songs, and performs about 200 times a year doing what he loves. He has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, and The Good Evening Show.

 Some of Bill’s more familiar songs include “Bridges,” “Crossing the Water,” “Sweet Wyoming Home,” “The Roseville Fair,” “All God’s Critters,” “Inch By Inch, Row By Row,” “Child of Mine,” and “River.” Many of his songs have been recorded by other artists including, Peter, Paul & Mary, Makem and Clancy, The Highwaymen, and Glenn Yarborough.

 His music has appeared in a number of films, including the HBO series, Deadwood, Return of the Secaucus Seven, John Sayles’ first endeavor as a director, and Off and Running with Cyndi Lauper.

 Composer David Amram once described Bill as “a modern day Stephen Foster. His music will be around a hundred years from now.”
