Seven indicted by Chenango grand jury

NORWICH – The Chenango County grand jury met Wednesday and handed up a number of criminal indictments. At the proceeding, the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute. It is up to the jury to decide if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person with a felony offense.

Those indicted by the grand jury are arraigned before the county or Supreme Court judge at a later date.

The grand jury indicted seven individuals:

• John A. Zangari, 48, Norwich, was indicted on charges of fourth degree welfare fraud and first degree offering a false instrument for filing – both class E felonies – and is accused of receiving approximately $3,000 in public assistance between the months of June 2010 and April 2011 he was not entitled to. According to the indictment, Zangari failed to report NYS Workers Compensation funds he was already receiving and knowingly submitted a written instrument containing false information while applying for public assistance from the Department of Social Services.
