DVD Patrol

Hello, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is here yet again and there are some movies with a new spin or two and an old favorite of the Toddster’s. We hope everyone is getting their holiday shopping done. Check these picks this week and maybe some of these might give you a few ideas. Time to look!

New on DVD

Kung Fu Panda 2 - Sometimes the answers you need may be those you might already know about. At least that’s what we hope happens to Po. Po has joined the Furious Five and his new life has become everything he’s ever wanted. Being the new member of the team doesn’t come without its’ challenges. A new villain has come to take on Po and his friends and also to threaten the safety of China. Po’s not sure what to make of them but to find a way to stop them and keep everyone safe may not be as easy as he thinks. Can he bring an all new level of awesomeness and stop this new threat? Also on DVD, Pick up “Kung Fu Panda” and an all new holiday adventure with Po and the gang in stores now.

Fright Night - Having great neighbors is always a great feeling. The Toddster knows because he has some, but in this case Jerry Dandridge (Colin Farrell) may not fit in that category. Charlie (Anton Yeltchin) hasn’t always been popular but he’s always trying and finally hooks up with the most beautiful girl in his class. His friend “Evil Ed” (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) has been feeling left out and now he has disappeared. Charlie doesn’t like to run around blaming people but his new neighbor has some strange habits and now he’s sure that Jerry is really a Vampire. He knows he’s right but he can’t get anyone to believe him. Charlie goes to Peter Vincent (David Tennant) for help who is an expert in everything supernatural but it’s just for show. Will Charlie and Peter be able to stop Dandridge before they go missing themselves? Farrell is getting ready for a reboot of “Total Recall” in theaters this Summer and Yeltchin is getting ready for “Star Trek 2” in development now.

Also on DVD

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Every great story gets its start someplace. In this prequel to “Planet of the Apes,” Will Rodman (James Franco) was a scientist getting ready for the breakthrough of his career. All he ever wanted to do was help people and he thinks he’s found a way to do that with a new drug he’s developed. He never liked using animals but he finds an ape he names Caesar and starts using his drug on him. Everything starts out fine but Caesar starts to develop side effects that make him smarter. After a lifetime of cruelty and mistreatment, Caesar has had enough and uses his intellect to make more like him. Now they go on a rampage and threaten everyone in their path. Can Will and his team find a way to stop the apes? My sources tell me that a sequel is already in development. More on this soon.

New on Blue Ray

The Rocketeer - The 20th Anniversary edition finally comes to Blu Ray. Director Joe Johnston brings us Pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) as he finds a new way to fly. Being chased by Nazi Secret Agents led by Neville Sinclair (Timothy Dalton) and dodging the FBI, Cliff finds a rocket pack that enables him to fly. He decides to borrow it for awhile and chaos just follows him after that. With the help of his friend “Pevey” (Alan Arkin), Cliff figures out how it works and now must use it to save his girl Jenny (Jennifer Connelly) from Sinclair and his goons. Is Cliff going to be able to save her and stop Sinclair once and for all? Johnston also directed “Captain America; The First Avenger,” “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” and “The Wolfman” all available on DVD in stores now.

Well, Patrollers! That’s all we’ve got for this week. The Toddster has a brand new teamup coming very soon with the team and our end of the year special is on the way too. What will there be? Tune in next week to find out. The Toddster will be back!
