Two nabbed in drug bust at city hotel
NORWICH – A pair of Syracuse residents have been charged with multiple felony counts of drug possession following a Tuesday night drug bust carried out by the Norwich City Police.
Nathaniel Raheem Cosby, 37, of 2312 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, and Shinyrra K. Legrand-Thomas, 18, 254 Calthrop St., Syracuse, were taken into custody following the 9:30 p.m. bust, which took place at the Howard Johnson Hotel.
“Officers responded to a complaint of an odor of burning marijuana and arrested two people in a first floor room at Howard Johnson’s,” said Police Chief Joseph Angelino. “During the investigation, a substantial amount of heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana were seized at the scene.”
Cosby has been charged with two counts of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance – a class B felony – unlawful possession of marijuana – a violation – and second degree criminal nuisance and false personification, both misdemeanors. During the booking process, it was discovered that Cosby had earlier identified himself to officers as another individual, reported Angelino.
Legrand-Thomas faces similar charges, including two counts of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and second degree criminal nuisance.
A felony charge of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance indicates the intent to sell the substance, according to police, and further charges are pending consultation with the county district attorney. Both defendants will be arraigned in Norwich City Court today.
The Norwich City PD was assisted at the scene by deputies from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
