It’s the end of the world ...
Christmas is finally over which means we can all relax, right?
Not if the ancient Mayans are to be believed. If what they say is true, this will be humanity’s final year walking this planet, so we better make it a good one.
I’ve had more than a few conversations with friends, co-workers and family over the years about the hypothetical “End of the World” and what exactly we would do with our remaining time on this planet.
Many people believe that the Earth would devolve into complete chaos overnight due to the wanton looting, destruction and various forms of insanity. However, I noticed a startling trend amongst people who were completely content with just “taking a few days off.”
Now what could possibly keep someone from taking advantage of the ultimate “get out of jail free” card to sit at home in front of the TV? Are people over-worked these days? Or is it based on some sort of moral code?
Hardly. Unfortunately, I’m a bit pessimistic about this one and believe that most people just don’t have that great of an imagination anymore. Even the folks who had plans for the Apocalypse weren’t coming up with anything extraordinary, in my opinion.
For example: stealing a flatscreen and every video game at the mall? Wow, lame.
What happened to all of the incredibly ambitious ideas such as base-dive off of the Eiffel Tower? Personally, it would take a lot to get me off that thing, but at the very least I’d get to the base of the tower before wussing out. And hey, at least I would have made it to Paris.
Drive off in any car you desire? Pssh, how about drive off in a tank? Or a helicopter?
All that I am saying is it’s important to have goals and ambitions in your life, even right down to the hypothetical ones. It keeps us fresh and open to the world and keeps our imaginations sharp.
So, remember, there’s a whole wide world out there waiting to be lived in – let’s get to it while we have the chance.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go find someone who can pilot a chopper.
