Smooth sailing

Life is unpredictable. We’ve all heard this one, we know what it means and what it entails. Sometimes, however, life wants to stand back and throw every darn thing it can at once. Ever have one of those weeks?
And frankly, I just can’t get a grip on how the heck it knows exactly when the most inopportune time to do that is.
Life literally seems to wait until you’re sailing into a headwind and decides to throw a few sharks at you for good measure.
Not just that, but there are crabs scurrying across the deck, mad because they don’t even know how they came to be away from their lovely beach and on your rickety schooner.
Of course, the sea-gulls have now spotted the crabs and begin to make dive after dive towards the creatures, meanwhile covering your boat in feathers and droppings.
With the deck covered in slick white splatters, it’s awfully hard to move around and you end up becoming tangled in a coil of rope, accidentally releasing the mainsail which drops on the crabs and gulls, further enraging them, and the mast falls in the waters.
However, all of this could be easily dealt with, one matter at a time, if that headwind hadn’t taken a turn towards the terrible and having come in contact with stronger gales, has turned into a full blown storm.
There’s no time to turn back, you’ve lost the sail, one of the sharks ate the rudder, you haven’t had a chance to count your toes but you’re thinking the odds aren’t good, and you swear that if one more gull takes the time to aim right at your head and drop a small gift of filth, as opposed to the millions of other targets, you might just lose your mind.
But then one does, you wipe it off, and go back to working on the problems at hand, mind intact.
Because sometimes, life’s just funny like that.
