Alleged arsonist Pothos one step closer to trial

NORWICH – Defense counsel in the case of a Town of German man accused of fourth degree conspiracy – a class E felony – has been given 45 days to make motions and a trial in the matter may be forthcoming.
Vasilios K. Pothos, 61, was indicted by a Chenango County Grand Jury on Sept. 22 for allegedly conspiring with another person to commit the crime of third degree arson – a class C felony – in an alleged attempt to hire another individual to set fire to a vehicle.
According to the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office, Pothos has ties outside the country and while no order of protection has been issued, the case does involve confidential informants, whose safety must be maintained. The county district attorney’s office had no further comment.
Pothos remains in custody at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash bail.
