DVD Patrol

Hope everyone is enjoying the winter, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is always amazed at the weather this time of year, Sometimes it’s cold when it was and then it’s just a little cold. This it has been. The Toddster knows no matter what it is outside, you can always enjoy a good movie no matter what it’s doing. Let’s see what there is this time out.

New on DVD

Real Steel - It’s always interesting to see how much sports can change. Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) may not be happy with it since he’s pretty much out of a job now that robots have taken over the sport of boxing. Charlie takes the good with the bad and builds robots to fight. His last few fights haven’t worked out so good and to try something different, Charlie joins with his son Max (Dakota Goyo) to make a robot that no one will be able to beat. Charlie and Max’s relationship hasn’t been the greatest over the last few years. Maybe this will bring them closer together. Will they be able to win it all ? My sources tell me that Jackman is working very hard to get ready for another “Wolverine” movie and will be out sometime next year in theaters.

50/50 - Adam (Joseph Gordon Levitt) has a pretty good life with his girlfriend and a pretty good job too. All that is about to change. Adam receives some bad news when he goes to the doctor and finds out that he has cancer and nothing can really be done about it. Kyle (Seth Rogen) finds out about it and wants to help his friend but also sees it as a way to get what he wants too. Adam has a pretty good outlook considering what’s going on. Adam decides to make the best out of it even those around him are having trouble with the new facts of Adam’s circumstances. Will Adam help his friends find a way to live life in the short time he has left? Levitt has a number of upcoming projects including a role in the much anticipated “The Dark Knight Rises” coming to theaters in July.

Also on DVD

The Whistleblower - Based on a true story, Kathy (Rachel Weisz) was a cop and good at her job. She makes a choice and wants to go further with the job so she journeys to Bosnia where being a cop takes on a whole new meaning. She wants to help the people there but the more she does, the more she finds that the people behind the scenes are only working for their own needs instead working for the people. Can Kathy find a way to turn things around and help the people she was hired to help? Weisz joins her husband Daniel Craig in “DreamHouse” coming out on DVD and will be featured next week right here.

Godzilla (1956) - People can be very cranky if you wake them up too soon. How about a lizard who breathes fire, is about 30 stories tall, and has a very bad disposition. Reporter Steve Martin (Raymond Burr) is in Tokyo covering a hot story when an undersea explosion wakes up the story of the century. A local legend has awoken and is now tearing up the city. Only Martin and a team of scientists might find a way to stop Godzilla. Can they find a way to do it before Godzilla moves on somewhere else and put the rest of the world in peril? Ghosts can be cranky too if they’re not laid to rest. Visit a couple in “Paranormal Activity 3” and see if they can put the ghosts to rest now on DVD in stores.

A few movies for you. The Toddster is definitely going to catch some of them. A teamup is on the way soon, but what can we come up with now that the new year has started? We’ll see in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, The Toddster shall come back for next time.
