Sno Blast goes on, snow or not
OXFORD – The lack of snow won’t be keeping snowmobile enthusiasts from excitement this weekend. The Chenango County Snowmobile Federation, in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, will be hosting their Second Annual Sno-Blast this Saturday at Bowman Lake State Park.
Sno-Blast is free and open to the public. Dealer booths and vintage sleds will be set up for snowmobilers to check out, snowmobile related vendors will be selling different products, food concessions will be available for hungry riders and information on snowmobiling events in Chenango County will be passed out. With the lack of snow, snowmobile hobbyists will resort to four-wheeled transportation and snowmobile rides and demos are out of the question, but that’s not going to keep the organization from hosting a terrific event, said Joel Munson, president of the Chenango Snowmobile Federation.
“This is going to be a great event to get people out and see some good snowmobile products,” Munson said.
Last year’s Sno-Blast attracted more than 200 snowmobilers from around the area. Even with the lack of snow, Munson hopes that heavy promotion and an increased inventory will bring a similar turnout this year. Local snowmobiling clubs including BC Sno Riders, Chenango Sno Riders, Trail Hounds, Ridge Riders, D.O.C.S. Snowriders, SHASTA Snow Travelers and the Unadilla Valley and Greene Snow Drifters are already preparing to take part.
“We’re trying to promote snowmobiling in Chenango County,” Munson said. “There are really good trails out there – as good as anywhere in the state. We want people in the area to know that there is a gem right there in their back yard.”
Sno-Blast will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bowman Lake State Park, 745 Bliven Sherman Rd. in Oxford. For more information, go to www.ccsf.snowclubs.com or contact Munson at jvmunson@juno.com.
