DVD Patrol

It’s Movie Time, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is here and the Toddster is happy to throw in a review just for you. The weather has warmed up a bit. Don’t let it fool you because February still has to come and Mother Nature still can hold a surprise or two. We also want to throw in some options just in case the Super Bowl is not your cup of tea. Time to go!

New on DVD

Drive - There are those people who take their jobs way too seriously. Driver (Ryan Gosling) was absolutely good at his job by being one of the best stunt drivers in the movie business. He also had a part time job that no one else knew about. Driver also became one of the best getaway drivers where someone would hire him for a job – just to drive and nothing else. He also has feelings for his neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan) and her family. After they start going out, Irene’s ex husband Standard (Oscar Isaac) comes back and his deal goes bad. This puts Irene in danger and now only Driver can save her. Can he help her and outrace the criminals that want the money left in his car? Some DVDs starring Gosling from the Patrol vaults include “Lars and the Real Girl,””Half Nelson,” and “The Notebook” (with Rachel McAdams).

In Time - They always time has a way of catching up with us. In this case, time couldn’t be more true. Time is used as a form of money in this future world. Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) lives in a world where getting all the time you can is what you want. The only problem is you can only live until the age of 25. Will finds a way to get more time than he can ever use. Raymond Leon (Cillian Murphy) finds out about it and he’s not really a guy you want to hold anything back from. Will also has to find a way to save a young heiress (Amanda Seyfried) whose time is almost up. Can Will make his time last? Seyfried can be seen in “Gone” coming soon to theaters.

Also on DVD

Dream House - Creating a home is something everyone strives to do. For Will Atenton (Daniel Craig), he wanted to get his wife Libby (Rachel Weisz) and the kids away from the city. Finding out about your dream house’s former owners may not be the best thing to do. Will meets Ann Hamilton (Naomi Watts), the next door neighbor, who reveals that the husband survived and the rest of the family didn’t. The longer Will and the family stay, the more risk they are in. Can Will get to the bottom of things before it’s too late? Craig is getting ready to become 007 again in “Skyfall” coming to theaters next year.

Now in Theaters

Haywire - Mallory Kane (Gina Carrano) is not someone you want to mess with. She’s recruited to save a Chinese national from kidnappers who believe he holds information that certain people in the government don’t want anyone to know about. Mallory finds out later that Kenneth (Ewan Mcgregor) has had him killed and tries to pin the murder on her. That may not have been such a good plan because she goes after Kenneth and his gang trying to get to the truth. Getting in Mallory’s way is not a good idea. Can Mallory take them down before they get to her?

The Toddster’s Take - Seeing a new star getting their start is always interesting. Carrano is coming from the world of Mixed Martial Arts and she seemed to be very natural. I think she has a real future if she chooses her roles right. The story was good and her supporting cast with Mcgregor and the rest of them made for a great fit. Director Steven Soderburgh (Ocean’s 11-13) has brought a very good movie with a new star for everyone to see. It didn’t do so great in the theaters, but the DVD will be good.

Hope the suggestions we gave you have a few ideas. I think the Patriots are going to win, but I was never very good at trying to guess the score. I personally enjoy the commercials and the movie trailers myself. Plus pizza and wings are OK, too. More movies are on the way for next week.
