Norwich 47, Maine-Endwell 42
NORWICH – After losing three of its previous five games, Norwich regained some momentum heading into postseason play defeating Maine-Endwell Thursday evening in a non-league matchup at Jack Jones Gymnasium.
NHS (13-5) held the Spartans scoreless the final three minutes, and finished the game on an 8-0 run.
Kyle Edwards tied the game at 42-42 hitting a three ball after a fine delivery from Michael D’Abbracio at the 2:44 mark.

Norwich’s Mike Sutton missed a three on the ensuing possession before Seth Thomsen was fouled on an offensive rebound. Thomsen hit one of two free throws giving Norwich the lead for keeps.
Maine-Endwell missed its share of shots down the stretch, and Steve Eggleston’s three-point attempt with 20 seconds for the tie was just short.
NHS senior Dennis Oralls hit 4-for-4 from the foul line in the last 30 seconds allowing Norwich to pull away.
Edwards and Oralls each scored 15 points in the victory, and Eric Walling came off the bench to score eight.

Norwich 61, Unadilla Valley 48
NORWICH – In a matchup that featured three of the top four scorers in the area, Norwich senior Bryn Loomis and the Tornado reigned Thursday night in a non-league victory over Unadilla Valley.
Loomis scored a career-high 27 points, and she spearheaded a 10-0 Norwich run midway through the fourth quarter that helped put the game away.
Unadilla Valley’s top scorers, Amanda Off and Jordan Anderson, were right around their season averages finishing with 16 and 15 points respectively. Taylor Davis added 13 points.
“Unadilla Valley is a very good team, and I’m surprised they are an 11 seed in the playoffs,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. “I thought we went through periods (tonight) where we moved the ball and got good looks.”
Davis hit two free throws for UV with 5:31 left in the fourth closing a 16-point halftime deficit to 44-37.
That is when Loomis and teammate Jennifer Borfitz led the ten-point surge. Loomis canned a short jumper from the right wing after Breanne Cashman kicked out a pass from the middle of the lane.
After a UV turnover, Cashman facilitated another bucket from the middle when she found Borfitz behind the arc for a three ball.
Loomis put back a layup after a Cassie Sutton miss, and then capped the salvo with her third trey of the game upping the advantage to 54-37. “Bryn is just shooting the ball so confidently right now,” Bennett said. “The past two or three games she has really started to dial it in with her shooting.”
Borfitz added 13 points for Norwich and Cashman had 10.

Greene 65, Hancock 50
HANCOCK – With a postseason bid on the line, Greene avenged an early-season loss to Hancock to finish the regular season at .500 (9-9).
“We have a school policy that if you don’t finish the regular season with a .500 record, you cannot play in the sectionals,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “It was a real big win, and probably our best all-around game of the season.”
Hancock, especially tough on its home floor, canned three three-pointers in the opening quarter, but were held without a three ball the rest of the way. “Hancock shoots the ball so well,” Smith said. “We played man-to-man the whole way, and we tried to take them out of their rhythm.”
Sam Adams and Jeff Carlin scored 16 points apiece for Greene, sophomore Brandon Davis posted his first double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 boards, and point guard Dan Treadwell had seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals to go with his nine points.”

COPENHAGEN – Otselic Valley was unable to sustain its offense through the second half, and dropped its Section III playoff opener Wednesday night at Copehagen.
The Vikes shot 10-for-22 from the floor in the opening half, but struggled over the final two stanzas connecting on just 3-of-22 attempts. “They went box-and-one for a while, then switched to a one-three-one zone,” said OV coach Ron Graham. “We just weren’t able to put the ball in the basket as well in the second half. It was a 3 1/2-hour bus ride, and I think we wore down mentally and physically. We sure did play well in the first half, and hopefully that is something the girls can hold onto for next year.”
