UV plants seeds in ag literacy program

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley Kindergarten students received a special visit from a giant tomato last Wednesday as part of the national Agriculture Literacy reading effort.

UV Board of Education member Victoria Gregory donned the hand-crafted tomato costume, courtesy of Afton seamstress Sindy Bacluska, and sat down with the kindergarten students to discuss the importance of planting seeds in the upstate New York area. Gregory shared stories and read to the students about agriculture and discussed the growth process of the seeds.

“As always, the students enjoyed the visit and the activity,” said kindergarten teacher Lorraine Ruffino.
